State legislator highlighted that mastering Sepaktakraw could enable young people from Nagaland to compete abroad and secure sports scholarships.
State MLA R. K. M. M. M. K. S. M. said Sepaktakraw, a fast‑paced net sport popular in Southeast Asia, offers a realistic pathway for Nagaland’s youth to step onto the international stage. He pointed out that the sport’s growing presence in regional tournaments can translate into overseas exposure and even sports‑scholarship opportunities for talented players.
The legislator noted that recent participation of Nagaland teams in national Sepaktakraw championships has already drawn attention from foreign coaches and clubs. He urged the state sports department to invest in better training facilities, qualified coaches, and regular exposure trips to countries where the game is professionally organized.
If these measures are taken, the MLA believes that young athletes from the hills could not only bring home medals but also secure contracts or scholarships abroad, thereby widening their career horizons beyond traditional avenues.
