Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party have announced a series of foot marches in Uttar Pradesh before the Diwali festival, aiming to mobilise voters ahead of the upcoming state elections.
New Delhi, November 1 (ET) – Senior figures in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) disclosed plans to undertake multiple padyatras across Uttar Pradesh in the weeks leading up to Diwali. The foot marches are intended to connect with grassroots supporters and reinforce the party's campaign narrative ahead of the state assembly polls scheduled for early 2027.
Party officials said the padyatras will cover key districts, including Lucknow, Varanasi, and Agra, with leaders walking several kilometres each day to meet local residents, address concerns and highlight development initiatives. The schedule is being coordinated with local party units to maximise outreach before the festive season.
Election analysts note that such on‑ground activities are a traditional strategy for the BJP to consolidate its voter base in the politically crucial state. The party hopes the timing—just before Diwali—will capitalize on heightened public gatherings and festive goodwill.
The announcement was made through a press conference in New Delhi, where senior leaders emphasized that the padyatras will be peaceful, adhering to all security protocols. State police have been briefed and will provide necessary support to ensure smooth movement of the delegations.
As Uttar Pradesh prepares for a fiercely contested election, the BJP's padyatra initiative adds another dimension to the pre‑poll campaigning, signaling the party's intent to maintain its momentum in the nation's most populous state.
