Senior lawyer Harish Salve said constitutional institutions must stay free from political attacks, criticising opposition remarks.

Senior advocate Harish Salve, one of India’s most prominent lawyers, publicly cautioned that constitutional bodies should not become tools of partisan politics. He stressed that institutions such as the Election Commission, the Supreme Court and other independent agencies must operate without partisan pressure to safeguard democratic governance.
Salve’s remarks were directed at recent statements by opposition leaders that he said sought to undermine the credibility of these institutions. He warned that turning constitutional offices into political targets erodes public trust and weakens the rule of law.
The senior lawyer called on all political parties to respect the constitutional framework and refrain from using institutional criticism as a campaign weapon. No immediate response from the opposition has been recorded.
