The Sehore police, aided by cyber‑cell and local teams, retrieved 493 missing smartphones worth about Rs 78 lakh and handed them back to owners during a Navratri event.
During the Navratri celebrations, the Sehore police announced a large‑scale recovery of lost mobile phones. Working in coordination with the cyber cell and police teams at the thana level, officers located 493 smartphones that had been reported missing, with an estimated market value of roughly Rs 78 lakh.
The operation involved systematic tracing of IMEI numbers and field checks across the district. Of the recovered devices, 260 were handed over directly at a ceremony organized at the police superintendent’s office, where owners received their phones in person.
The remaining 233 phones were distributed through the respective police stations where the owners had originally filed complaints, ensuring that each claimant received the correct device.
Police officials highlighted that the successful return of the phones not only restored public confidence but also sent a strong message to thieves that stolen gadgets can be tracked and recovered.
The event concluded with grateful owners expressing relief, while the department reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology and inter‑departmental cooperation to combat mobile theft in the region.
