Clay lamp makers in Sehore are selling 25 lamps for just ₹20 as the cost of clay, sand and chalk soars, demanding a price of ₹2 per lamp and government aid.
The festival of Diwali has increased demand for traditional clay lamps in Sehore, but artisans are struggling to cover rising material costs.
The price of clay, sand and chalk has surged, squeezing profit margins for local lamp makers.
As a result, many craftsmen are now selling a bundle of 25 lamps for only ₹20, a price that translates to just ₹0.8 per lamp.
They have called for a minimum selling price of ₹2 per lamp and are seeking government assistance to offset the inflationary pressures.
