Voting for the second phase of Rajasthan’s gram panchayat elections has commenced in 22 districts, covering 3,626 villages, with 21,839 sarpanch candidates in the fray.
The Election Commission of India has launched the second phase of the statewide gram panchayat elections, with polling stations opening in 22 districts of Rajasthan. A total of 3,626 village councils are participating in this round, where residents cast votes for both panch and sarpanch positions.
The sarpanch contest is particularly crowded, featuring 21,839 candidates across the affected gram panchayats. Election officials have deployed additional security and monitoring teams to ensure a smooth voting process in rural polling booths.
In 45 gram panchayats, the sarpanch seat was declared unopposed, meaning the sole nominee has been elected without a ballot. The remaining villages will continue voting through the scheduled dates, with results expected to be announced after the final phase concludes.
Stakeholders, including local political parties and community leaders, are closely watching voter turnout, which is seen as an indicator of grassroots engagement ahead of upcoming state-level elections.
