A second breach in a flood containment structure in Nepal has heightened flood risk, leading Bihar to declare a high alert.
A second breach in a flood‑control embankment in Nepal has been reported, raising fresh concerns of downstream flooding. The breach, confirmed by local authorities in Kathmandu, follows an earlier failure that already strained the region's flood‑management capacity. Officials say the new opening could allow a sudden surge of water into river valleys that feed into northern Bihar. In response, the Bihar state disaster management department has issued a high‑alert warning, urging districts along the border to activate emergency protocols and monitor river levels closely. The state government has also mobilised relief teams and pre‑positioned relief supplies in anticipation of possible inundation.
