Security forces have begun a search operation in Poonch district after intelligence pointed to a suspected militant movement in the area.
On Monday, armed forces initiated a comprehensive search operation in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir following intelligence reports of a suspected militant movement in the region. The operation, coordinated by the local police and the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department, aims to locate and neutralise any extremist elements that may be planning attacks.
According to officials, the intelligence gathered indicated the presence of a group that could potentially threaten public safety. The search covers several villages and forested areas around Poonch town, with teams deploying both ground and aerial surveillance to trace suspicious activity.
The operation is expected to last for several days, during which security personnel will conduct house-to-house checks, interrogate residents, and seize any weapons or illegal materials found. Authorities have urged civilians to cooperate and report any suspicious behaviour.
The Home Department spokesperson said that the operation is part of a broader strategy to maintain law and order in the region and prevent any escalation of militant activities. No casualties have been reported so far.
