Schools Shut in Andhra Pradesh Districts on Sep 23 Over Cyclone Threat

The Andhra Pradesh government ordered the closure of schools in several districts on September 23 as a cyclone approaches the coast, citing safety concerns for students and staff.
The state administration announced that all government and private schools in the districts of East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, and Srikakulam will remain closed on September 23. The decision follows the Meteorological Department's warning of a severe cyclonic disturbance expected to make landfall along the Bay of Bengal later in the week.
Officials said the precautionary measure aims to protect students, teachers and support staff from potential hazards such as high winds, heavy rain and flooding. Transportation services for schoolchildren have also been suspended, and parents are advised to keep children at home until further notice.
The cyclone, identified as Cyclone "Nivar," is projected to bring wind speeds of up to 120 km/h in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Disaster management teams have been placed on standby, and relief shelters are being prepared in vulnerable areas. The education department will reassess the situation before deciding on the resumption of classes.
No injuries or damage have been reported so far, but authorities continue to monitor the weather closely and will issue updates through official channels.
