Schools Launch Plastic‑Free Campus Initiative to Boost Environmental Awareness
Government and aided schools are conducting hands‑on sessions on creating plastic‑free campuses and managing organic waste to instill eco‑consciousness among students.
Schools across the region have begun a new environmental‑friendly awareness campaign aimed at fostering eco‑consciousness among students. The initiative focuses on government and aided schools, where teachers and staff are organising practical lessons on creating plastic‑free campuses and handling organic waste.
In the first phase, children participate in hands‑on activities that demonstrate how to eliminate single‑use plastics from school premises. They learn to identify recyclable materials and to set up reusable alternatives such as refillable water bottles and reusable lunch containers.
The second phase covers organic waste management. Students are taught to segregate food scraps, compost them, and use the resulting bio‑fertiliser in school gardens. The sessions also cover the benefits of composting for soil health and biodiversity.
By integrating these lessons into the regular curriculum, the programme aims to nurture a generation of environmentally aware citizens who can carry sustainable practices beyond school walls.
