The University of Pune announced plans to establish a new undergraduate school offering multidisciplinary programmes, aiming to broaden academic options for students.
Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) disclosed its intention to set up a dedicated undergraduate school that will integrate courses from multiple disciplines. The proposal, outlined in a recent university briefing, seeks to create a flexible curriculum that allows students to combine subjects such as humanities, sciences, commerce and technology under a single programme.
The multidisciplinary model is designed to address the growing demand for interdisciplinary skills in the job market. University officials indicated that the new school will be operational by the 2025‑26 academic year, pending regulatory clearances from the University Grants Commission and the state education department.
