The government has announced the establishment of the largest skill development institute for women working in the informal sector, to be set up in Sanand, Gujarat.
The state government of Gujarat has confirmed plans to launch the country’s biggest skill development centre dedicated to women in the informal sector, with the campus slated for the industrial town of Sanand.
The institute, which will offer vocational training in areas such as tailoring, handicrafts and digital literacy, aims to equip thousands of women with marketable skills and improve their income prospects.
Construction is expected to begin early next year, with the facility projected to open by mid‑2025. Officials say the centre will also provide entrepreneurship support and link graduates to local businesses.
The project is part of a broader national effort to boost skill development among women and strengthen the informal economy.
