A fire broke out at a sago processing plant in Salem, Tamil Nadu, prompting a swift inspection by local authorities.

A blaze erupted at a sago processing plant in Salem on Tuesday evening, forcing the evacuation of workers and damaging a significant portion of the facility. The fire was reported to the Salem fire brigade at approximately 7:15 p.m., which arrived within minutes and managed to contain the spread before it reached adjacent storage areas.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with preliminary reports suggesting a possible short circuit in the plant’s electrical system. No injuries have been reported, and the plant’s safety protocols were cited as a factor in preventing a larger disaster.

Following the incident, senior officials from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation and the Salem Municipal Corporation conducted a site inspection. They reviewed the plant’s fire safety measures, including sprinkler systems and emergency exits, and are expected to issue recommendations to prevent future incidents.

The plant’s owner has expressed cooperation with authorities and pledged to resume operations once safety upgrades are completed. Workers have been advised to await further instructions before returning to the site.
