Safdarjung Hospital in collaboration with the Vallabhbhai Patel Medical College (VMMC) has achieved a medical milestone by performing the country's first dual kidney transplant. The procedure involved transplanting both kidneys from a single living donor into a recipient, marking a historic step in India's organ transplantation landscape.
The donor, whose identity remains confidential, voluntarily offered both kidneys, enabling surgeons to replace the failing renal function of the recipient in a single operation. Medical officials described the surgery as technically complex, requiring precise coordination among nephrologists, transplant surgeons, and anaesthesiologists.
