Security forces have uncovered rusted hand grenades in the remote Gurez valley of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting an investigation.
Security personnel conducting a routine sweep in the Gurez valley of Jammu and Kashmir reported finding several rusted hand grenades concealed in a remote area. The discovery was made by local police teams who were responding to a tip-off about suspicious objects in the mountainous region.
The grenades, described as corroded and non‑functional, were recovered from a narrow gorge that is frequented by shepherds and trekkers. While the exact origin of the munitions remains unclear, officials noted that such weapons occasionally surface in the region due to past conflicts and illicit trafficking.
Authorities have sealed the site and handed the explosives over to the bomb disposal squad for safe neutralisation. An investigation has been launched to trace the source and determine whether any security threat persists for the local population.
The Jammu and Kashmir police have urged residents to report any unusual finds and assured that the area will continue to be monitored closely to prevent any potential misuse of abandoned ordnance.
