Runways Ready for Shimla‑Datia Route, But No Flights Yet

The newly constructed runways linking Shimla and Datia are complete, yet airlines have not started services on the corridor.
The civil aviation authorities have confirmed that the runway infrastructure connecting Shimla in Himachal Pradesh with Datia in Madhya Pradesh is now fully operational. Construction work, which began several years ago, was completed on schedule and the airstrips meet all safety and regulatory standards.
Despite the readiness of the physical infrastructure, airlines have not announced any commercial flights on the Shimla‑Datia corridor. Industry sources say that airlines are awaiting clear demand signals and viable slot allocations before committing aircraft to the route.
Local officials in both states have urged the central government and airline operators to expedite service initiation, highlighting the potential boost to tourism and regional connectivity. The absence of flights, however, continues to limit the immediate economic benefits of the newly built runways.
