Police discovered that ₹7.4 crore in genuine banknotes had been exchanged for counterfeit currency at a Saharanpur PNB vault, prompting an FIR against bank staff and private individuals.

Police investigators uncovered that ₹7.4 crore in genuine banknotes had been swapped for counterfeit currency at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) vault in Saharanpur.

The discovery came after routine audits flagged discrepancies in the vault's cash inventory.

An FIR has been registered against several bank employees and private individuals suspected of orchestrating the exchange.

A Special Investigation Team has been constituted by the Uttar Pradesh Police to probe the incident and recover the missing funds.

PNB officials have assured that all internal controls are being reviewed and that the bank will cooperate fully with the investigation.
