Meghalaya police seized heroin worth about ₹1.5 crore hidden in an ambulance and detained four suspects.
Meghalaya police disclosed that a large consignment of heroin, estimated at a street value of ₹1.5 crore, was discovered concealed inside an ambulance operating in the state. The seizure was made during a routine check by traffic police, who flagged the vehicle for irregularities and handed it over to drug enforcement officials.
Investigators recovered the narcotic in sealed packages and subsequently arrested four individuals who were linked to the vehicle. All four are being held in custody while the police continue to trace the source of the shipment and any wider network involved.
A police spokesperson said the operation underscores the growing sophistication of drug traffickers who exploit legitimate services such as medical transport to evade detection. The department has launched a broader probe to prevent similar attempts in the future.
