Rs 2 crore Restoration Planned for Historic Padmadurg Fort in Maharashtra

The coastal Padmadurg Fort, a historic structure dating back to the 17th century, has been earmarked for a major renovation funded at Rs 2 crore. State officials announced the plan as part of broader efforts to safeguard Maharashtra's maritime heritage and improve visitor facilities.

The allocated budget will cover structural repairs, restoration of stonework, and the installation of basic amenities for tourists. Authorities expect the work to commence within the next few months, with completion targeted before the upcoming peak season.

Heritage experts say the revamp will help prevent further deterioration of the fort, which has long been a symbol of the region's naval history. The project also aims to generate local employment and promote cultural tourism in the Raigad district.

Stakeholders have urged that the restoration adhere to conservation guidelines to retain the fort's original architecture while making it accessible to the public.

The initiative reflects a growing focus on preserving coastal monuments that are integral to Maharashtra's cultural landscape.
