The Railway Protection Force arrested three members of a gang that had been infiltrating parcel coaches in Ujjain wearing railway staff uniforms, confiscating goods worth about ₹7 lakh; two suspects remain at large.
Ujjain police, aided by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), recently detained three individuals suspected of running a theft ring that targeted parcel coaches on trains. The suspects had disguised themselves in railway employee uniforms to gain unrestricted access to the cargo compartments.
According to officials, the gang entered the parcel coach, lifted parcels and other consignments, and escaped with goods estimated to be worth around seven lakh rupees. The operation was uncovered after a routine inspection by RPF personnel raised suspicions about the unauthorized presence of uniformed personnel.
During the raid, investigators recovered the stolen merchandise, amounting to roughly ₹7 lakh, and seized the uniforms used by the culprits. While three members were taken into custody, two remain at large and are being actively pursued by law‑enforcement agencies. The RPF has urged travelers to report any suspicious activity on trains and reiterated that impersonating railway staff is a punishable offence.
