Heavy rains have caused river levels to rise, flooding several areas of Agartala, Tripura, prompting authorities to begin evacuations.
Heavy monsoon rains over the past 24 hours have pushed the water level of the Gomati River in Tripura's capital, Agartala, beyond its danger mark. The surge has inundated residential colonies, market areas and low‑lying streets, according to local officials.
The Tripura State Disaster Management Authority (TSDMA) and municipal officials have launched an evacuation drive, moving families from the most affected neighbourhoods to temporary relief shelters set up in schools and community halls. Teams of the State Disaster Response Force, along with police and volunteers, are using boats and high‑water vehicles to reach stranded residents.
Roads connecting the city centre with peripheral wards remain submerged, disrupting public transport and electricity supply. Residents have been advised to avoid non‑essential travel, stay in designated shelters, and cooperate with rescue personnel as the water level continues to rise.
