The Manipur government has announced that the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal will be upgraded to meet AIIMS standards, aiming to enhance specialist care in the state.
The state health department confirmed that the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal will undergo an upgrade to align with the standards of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The decision, announced in a recent press briefing, is part of Manipur's broader effort to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure.
Officials indicated that the upgrade will involve expanding existing facilities, introducing advanced diagnostic equipment, and recruiting additional specialist doctors. The project is expected to be implemented in phases over the next two years, with funding sourced from both state allocations and central government schemes.
The upgrade aims to reduce the need for patients from Manipur and neighboring states to travel to distant AIIMS centers for tertiary care. State health officials anticipate that the enhanced RIMS will improve treatment outcomes and serve as a training hub for medical professionals in the region.
