Police say the main accused in the Bhopal killing of retired IAS officer Rakesh Agrawal has been located in Mathura after evading capture by swapping his mobile phone and SIM card.

A special police team in Madhya Pradesh is hunting Varun Kumar, the prime suspect in the murder of retired IAS officer Rakesh Agrawal in Bhopal. Four days after the killing, Kumar managed to stay out of police nets by repeatedly changing his mobile handset and SIM cards, a tactic that temporarily blocked tracking efforts.

Investigators traced a fresh set of communications to the city of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, confirming the suspect's presence there. The lead was obtained after analysing call data records from the newly activated SIM, which pointed to a location near the outskirts of Mathura.

Authorities have now intensified their search in Mathura, deploying additional manpower and surveillance resources. The police have urged the public to cooperate and report any sightings of a man matching Kumar's description, while emphasizing that the investigation into the Bhopal murder remains ongoing.

The case has drawn significant attention, as the victim, a former IAS officer, was well‑known for his administrative service. Police stress that the suspect's apprehension is a priority to ensure justice for the slain officer and his family.
