A historic high of nominations has been recorded for the upcoming local body elections in Andhra Pradesh, reflecting intense competition across panchayats and municipalities.
The State Election Commission of Andhra Pradesh announced that a record number of candidates have filed nominations for the forthcoming local body polls, covering both rural panchayats and urban municipalities.
Election officials said the surge in nominations underscores heightened political activity as parties and independents vie for seats in over 13,000 wards and villages.
The filing period, which began on Monday, will close on Friday, after which the commission will verify the applications and publish the final list of eligible candidates.
Analysts note that the unprecedented interest may translate into a more contested electoral landscape, potentially influencing the performance of major state parties in the December elections.
