The sequel ‘Jailer 2’ starring Rajinikanth has outperformed Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Leo’ in Kerala, marking the first time sequels dominate all four major non‑Malayalam film industries in the state.
Rajinikanth’s latest sequel, Jailer 2, has emerged as the top‑grossing film in Kerala this week, surpassing Thalapathy Vijay’s new release, Leo, according to box‑office data compiled by trade tracker Sacnilk.
The performance is notable because it is the first occasion that sequels have led the earnings chart across all four major non‑Malayalam film industries—Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi—within the Kerala market.
Industry analysts attribute the shift to the growing fan‑base for franchise films and the star power of Rajinikanth, whose return after a hiatus generated heightened anticipation, while Vijay’s standalone offering faced stiff competition from the well‑established ‘Jailer’ brand.
