The chairman of Khilchipur Janpad Panchayat and his spouse have lodged a complaint alleging that Rs 7.20 lakh was taken from them on the promise of a government road‑construction contract that never materialised, prompting a police investigation.
Rajgarh district officials said a formal complaint was filed on Monday by the elected head of Khilchipur Janpad Panchayat and her husband, accusing a private individual of extracting Rs 7.20 lakh by promising to secure a state‑funded road‑construction contract.
According to the petition, the couple handed over the amount in early 2024 after being assured that the tender would be awarded to their firm within a few weeks. Nearly two and a half years have passed, yet no contract has been issued and the money has not been returned, prompting the duo to approach the police.
Local police have opened an investigation, registering the case under fraud and cheating provisions. Officers are reportedly gathering documents related to the tender process and interviewing both the complainants and the accused party to determine the extent of the alleged misappropriation.
If proven, the case could highlight ongoing concerns about transparency in the allocation of infrastructure projects in Madhya Pradesh, where the state government has been accelerating road‑building initiatives under various schemes.
