Rajasthan’s 85,000 Dilapidated School Classrooms Need ₹20,000 Crore, Situation Unchanged After High Court Order

Despite a Rajasthan High Court directive, 85,000 school classrooms remain in a state of disrepair, with an estimated ₹20,000 crore required for renovation.
The Rajasthan education department has reported that roughly 85,000 classrooms across the state are in a dilapidated condition, rendering them unsuitable for regular teaching activities.
A recent assessment estimates that about ₹20,000 crore is needed to bring these rooms up to basic safety and functional standards. The Rajasthan High Court had earlier issued an order directing the government to address the issue promptly.
However, officials say that little progress has been made since the court's intervention, and the majority of the identified classrooms remain unchanged.
Advocate Vagesh Kumar Singh, commenting on the situation, described it as a clear failure of bureaucratic mechanisms and warned that the continued neglect could undermine the quality of education for millions of students in the state.
