Rajasthan unveils ₹12,336 crore scheme to upgrade school infrastructure

The Rajasthan government has announced a ₹12,336 crore initiative aimed at modernising school facilities across the state.
New Delhi – The Rajasthan state administration has tabled a comprehensive plan worth ₹12,336 crore to overhaul school infrastructure. The scheme targets the renovation of classrooms, construction of science and computer labs, improvement of sanitation facilities, and the rollout of digital learning tools in government schools.
According to the proposal, the funding will be sourced from the state budget, central assistance under the Rashtriya Shiksha Abhiyan, and a dedicated education cess. Implementation is slated to begin in the upcoming fiscal year, with a phased approach covering all districts over a five‑year horizon.
Officials say the investment aims to raise the overall quality of public education, reduce dropout rates, and bring rural schools on par with urban counterparts. Monitoring will be carried out by a task force comprising the education department, local authorities, and independent auditors to ensure transparency and timely completion.
The plan also includes training for teachers on using new digital resources, with an estimated 10,000 educators slated for upskilling in the first two years. If successful, Rajasthan hopes to set a benchmark for other states seeking to modernise their school systems.
