The mercury in Rajasthan is expected to near 40°C today, with the monsoon withdrawing by tomorrow and temperatures projected to climb another 1‑2°C.
Rajasthan is experiencing an intense heat spell, with temperatures recorded close to 40°C across several districts today. Meteorological observations indicate that the high temperature is persisting despite the onset of the monsoon season earlier in the month.
Weather officials have warned that the monsoon trough will retreat from the state by tomorrow, effectively ending the brief respite that the rains had offered. The withdrawal is expected to leave large parts of the region exposed to uninterrupted sunshine.
Forecasts released by the India Meteorological Department project an additional rise of 1‑2°C in the mercury over the next 24 hours, pushing peak temperatures well above the 40°C mark. Such an increase raises concerns about heat‑related health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
State authorities have issued advisories urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seek shade whenever possible. Power utilities are also on alert to manage the anticipated surge in electricity demand for cooling.
The current heatwave adds to a series of extreme temperature events recorded in recent years, underscoring the growing challenges posed by climate variability in the arid zones of north‑western India.
