Police in Rajasthan detained a man accused of creating and distributing AI‑generated deepfake videos of Tamil Nadu’s chief minister for fraudulent purposes.

Rajasthan police have taken into custody a man suspected of producing and circulating artificial‑intelligence‑generated deepfake videos that feature the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. The suspect allegedly used the fabricated clips to mislead viewers and extract financial gains, constituting a fraud under existing cyber‑crime statutes.

According to the investigating officers, the deepfake content was shared across social media platforms, prompting complaints from the chief minister's office. The police traced the digital trail back to the suspect, who resides in Rajasthan, and arrested him during a routine check.

Authorities emphasized that the misuse of AI tools for deceptive purposes is a growing concern and warned the public to verify the authenticity of video material before acting on it. The case has been forwarded to the cyber crime cell for further examination, and legal proceedings are expected to follow.
