A recent judicial review revealed that 611 schools in Rajasthan operate without proper buildings. The state government admitted the shortfall and attributed responsibility to the Congress party and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

A panel of the Chief Justice of India recently inspected school infrastructure across Rajasthan and found that 611 government schools are functioning without dedicated classroom buildings.

The Rajasthan administration publicly acknowledged the gap, stating that the absence of proper structures hampers the delivery of quality education and violates statutory norms.

In its statement, the government placed the blame on the ruling Congress party and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, alleging that policy delays and funding lapses under their tenure led to the current crisis.

Education officials warned that students are forced to attend classes in temporary shelters or open spaces, raising concerns about safety, learning outcomes, and compliance with the Right to Education Act.

The department said it will launch an urgent audit and allocate additional resources to construct permanent facilities, but no concrete timeline was provided.
