The state food safety authority confiscated 5,850 kilograms of food products from a cold storage at Mirchi Mandi in Rajasthan ahead of Diwali, and sent sweets and khoya samples for testing.

Rajasthan's Food Safety Department carried out a large‑scale raid on a cold storage facility located in the Mirchi Mandi area as the festive season approached. Inspectors seized approximately 5,850 kilograms of assorted food items that were slated for sale during Diwali celebrations.

The seized stock included a variety of packaged goods, with particular focus on confectionery and dairy‑based products. Samples of sweets and khoya (milk solids) collected from several sweet‑shops were forwarded to the department’s laboratory for microbiological and quality analysis.

Officials said the operation aims to ensure that consumers receive pure, contamination‑free food during the high‑demand period. Any items found to violate safety standards will be destroyed, and the responsible parties may face penalties under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

The department has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food handling practices, especially in the run‑up to major festivals such as Diwali.
