Eighteen days after the monsoon withdrew, western and northern Madhya Pradesh have faced five consecutive days of heavy rain and strong winds, prompting alerts in 21 districts and soaking Dussehra festivities.
Madhya Pradesh continues to experience unsettled weather despite the official end of the monsoon season 18 days ago. The western and northern regions of the state have been under a spell of strong winds and heavy rain for the past five days, affecting daily life and outdoor events.
Local authorities have issued an "Aandhi-Pani" alert covering 21 districts, warning residents of the potential for flash flooding and urging caution in travel. The weather department attributes the lingering disturbances to a lingering low-pressure system that has not yet moved out of the region.
The ongoing showers coincided with Dussehra celebrations, where several Ravan effigies were drenched as crowds gathered for the traditional festivities. Despite the damp conditions, the celebrations proceeded, though the rain added an unexpected challenge for organizers and participants.
Officials continue to monitor the situation and have advised people to stay updated with weather bulletins, especially in the affected districts of western and northern Madhya Pradesh.
