The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that rain and thunderstorms are expected across Jammu and Kashmir, while temperatures are projected to stay above the seasonal average.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an advisory on Monday indicating that a broad band of rain and thunderstorms will move across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours. Meteorologists noted that the system is being driven by an upper‑level trough, bringing widespread cloud cover and intermittent downpours throughout the valley and adjoining hill districts.

Temperatures are expected to remain above normal for this time of year, with daytime highs ranging between 25°C and 30°C in the plains and 18°C to 22°C in higher elevations. The combination of warm air and moisture is likely to intensify convective activity, increasing the probability of localized heavy rain and gusty winds.

Authorities have advised residents to stay alert, avoid low‑lying areas prone to flash flooding, and secure outdoor objects that could be displaced by strong gusts. Travel on mountain roads may be disrupted, and schools in affected districts have been instructed to monitor conditions before opening. The IMD will continue to update forecasts as the system evolves.
