The Samastipur railway division will create temporary holding zones at 13 key stations in Bihar, spending about Rs 5 million to manage the surge of passengers during the Chhath festival.
The Samastipur railway division has announced a crowd‑control plan for the upcoming Chhath Mahaparv. Around 13 major stations across Bihar will be equipped with temporary holding areas designed to manage the expected surge of passengers.
The project is budgeted at roughly Rs 5 million (about 50 lakh rupees) and will involve setting up provisional platforms, signage and security arrangements to keep crowds orderly while they await train departures.
Railway officials said the holding zones will be operational a few days before the festival begins, allowing smoother boarding and alighting processes and reducing the risk of congestion at busy junctions such as Samastipur, Begusarai and Patna.
The initiative reflects the railways' broader effort to ensure safety and comfort for devotees traveling to observe Chhath rituals, which attract large numbers of pilgrims across the state.
Authorities will monitor the situation closely and may adjust the plan based on real‑time passenger flow, aiming for a hassle‑free travel experience during the festive period.
