A railway attendant was arrested in Thane after officials discovered Goa-made liquor valued at Rs 71,560 on the Mangaluru Express.
Thane police detained a railway attendant on board the Mangaluru Express after a routine check uncovered a large quantity of alcoholic liquor manufactured in Goa. The seizure took place at Thane railway station as the train was preparing to depart for Karnataka.
Investigators recovered bottles of the liquor with a combined market value of approximately Rs 71,560. The attendant, whose identity has not been disclosed, is alleged to have been transporting the contraband for personal sale.
Railway officials said the incident highlights ongoing efforts to curb the illegal movement of alcohol through the rail network. The attendant has been handed over to the local police for further questioning and will face charges under the relevant excise and anti-smuggling statutes.
