Rahul Gandhi staged a sit‑in protest alongside a man who lost an eye and has more than 200 pellet fragments lodged in his body, urging authorities to file a First Information Report.

New Delhi – Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi held a dharna on Tuesday, sitting beside a victim of a pellet‑gun incident who has lost an eye and carries over two hundred pellet fragments in his body. The protest was aimed at pressuring the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the perpetrators, whom Gandhi said must be held accountable.

The injured man, whose identity was not disclosed, recounted the injuries sustained during a recent protest where security forces used pellet ammunition. Medical reports confirm the presence of more than 200 pellet fragments lodged in various parts of his body, resulting in permanent loss of vision in one eye.

Gandhi addressed the media, stating that the failure to file an FIR violates the victim's right to justice and reflects a broader pattern of impunity in handling protest‑related violence. He called on the Delhi Police and the state government to act swiftly and ensure that the case is investigated without delay.

Human rights groups have previously highlighted the excessive use of pellet guns in crowd control, urging a review of the practice. Gandhi's dharna adds political pressure to ongoing debates about law‑enforcement methods and the protection of civil liberties.

The protest concluded without any official response from the police, but Gandhi pledged to continue the agitation until the FIR is filed and the victim receives appropriate legal redress.
