Rahul Gandhi Calls on Women to Shatter Social Constraints, Criticises Manusmriti

Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering, stressing that women should no longer be confined to the labels of daughter, wife or mother. He argued that such narrow definitions curtail their potential in public, professional and political spheres.

The Congress leader highlighted the persistent social pressures that discourage women from pursuing education, careers and leadership positions. He called for a collective effort to dismantle stereotypes that limit women's participation in nation‑building.

Gandhi specifically targeted the ancient legal text Manusmriti, describing it as a relic that entrenches patriarchal norms and legitimises gender discrimination. He urged lawmakers, scholars and civil society to re‑examine and reject its regressive provisions.

Concluding his remarks, Gandhi appealed to women across India to claim their agency, seek equal opportunities and assert their rights, while urging the country to create an environment where gender equality is a lived reality.
