The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Punjab’s electoral list has been completed, resulting in the deletion of 13.60 lakh names from the voter roll.
The Election Commission of India has concluded the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise for the state of Punjab. The comprehensive clean‑up removed approximately 13.60 lakh entries deemed ineligible, duplicate or otherwise invalid from the state's electoral roll.
The revision, undertaken to ensure the accuracy of voter data ahead of upcoming polls, involved a detailed verification of age, residency and identity documents. Officials said the exercise was part of a nationwide effort to streamline electoral rolls and prevent anomalies.
With the revised roll now in place, political parties and candidates will have to recalibrate their voter outreach strategies, as the reduction could affect constituency‑level calculations for the next assembly elections.
The Election Commission has urged citizens to verify their registration status through official portals and to submit any necessary corrections before the final roll is frozen.
Stakeholders are expected to monitor the impact of the 13.60 lakh voter deletion on electoral dynamics in Punjab, though the commission emphasized that the changes reflect only the removal of ineligible entries, not a shift in the overall electorate size.
