The second phase of the 2027 Census will begin in Punjab on 16 November, initiating a door‑to‑door population count across the state.
The Government of India has scheduled the launch of Phase‑II of the 2027 Census in Punjab for 16 November. Enumerators will visit households across the state to record demographic details, including age, sex, occupation and migration status.
Phase‑II follows the initial enumeration that covered basic population totals. This round aims to collect more granular data that will feed into policy planning, resource allocation and future development programmes.
The census operation is expected to run for several weeks, with teams equipped with electronic devices to ensure rapid data capture and verification. Local authorities have been briefed to assist field staff and to facilitate smooth access to remote and urban areas.
Officials have emphasized that participation is mandatory and that the data will be kept confidential, used solely for statistical purposes. The comprehensive dataset will be released in stages after thorough processing and validation.
