The Punjab government has announced revised start and end times for all schools across the state, effective from 1 October, aiming to improve attendance and reduce travel congestion.
The Punjab government has issued a notification on 30 September that all schools in the state will adopt new operating hours from 1 October. The revised schedule will see classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 3:30 p.m., replacing the previous 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. timings. The change is part of a broader effort to improve student attendance and alleviate traffic congestion during peak school commute hours.
Education officials said the new timings were developed after consultations with teachers, parents and transport operators. The government also announced that school buses will adjust their routes to align with the updated schedule.
The notification, published in the Punjab Gazette, directs all school authorities to implement the new timings immediately and to inform students and parents through school notices and local media.
