Outsourced and contract staff of Punjab Roadways and Punjab Bus staged a strike in Ludhiana, demanding better wages and working conditions.
On Thursday, outsourced and contract employees of Punjab Roadways and Punjab Bus (Panbus) walked out of their workplaces in Ludhiana, disrupting bus services across the city.
The workers, who form a significant portion of the daily workforce, cited delayed salary payments and inadequate safety provisions as the main reasons for their protest. They have demanded a 15% wage hike and the provision of proper safety gear.
The strike has led to a noticeable decline in the number of buses operating on key routes, causing inconvenience to commuters and affecting the daily revenue of the transport operators.
Both Punjab Roadways and Panbus officials have called for a meeting with the workers’ representatives to resolve the dispute, while the Punjab Labour Department has urged both parties to reach an amicable settlement as soon as possible.
