The Punjab government has reconstituted the state’s Workers Welfare Board to align with the recently enacted social security code, appointing new members to oversee employee benefits.
Earlier this week the Punjab administration announced the reconstitution of the state Workers Welfare Board, a move intended to bring the board’s structure and functions in line with the newly enacted social security code. The decision involved dissolving the previous committee and appointing a fresh set of members drawn from government, industry and labour representatives.
The board, which administers schemes such as health insurance, pension and skill‑development grants for unorganised workers, will now operate under the broader framework of the code that seeks uniform social protection across sectors. Officials said the alignment will simplify benefit delivery and reduce administrative overlaps.
