Punjab Pollution Board urges Himachal, Haryana to curb waste in Satluj tributaries

The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) has issued a formal notice to the administrations of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, calling for urgent measures to prevent waste from entering the tributaries of the Satluj river. The communication highlights growing concerns over solid and liquid waste being dumped into these feeder streams, which flow into the main river that traverses Punjab. PPCB officials warned that unchecked pollution threatens water quality, aquatic life and the health of communities dependent on the river. The board has asked both states to enforce stricter waste‑management protocols, conduct regular inspections and report compliance within a stipulated timeframe. Coordination among the three states is deemed essential to safeguard the Satluj basin and ensure sustainable use of its water resources.
