Punjab police conducted a large‑scale anti‑gambling operation in Jalandhar, detaining 14 individuals suspected of illegal betting.
Punjab police launched a coordinated raid in Jalandhar on Tuesday, targeting illegal betting activities that have been reported to operate in the city. Officers entered multiple premises suspected of hosting gambling tables and seized betting paraphernalia along with cash.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 14 persons, all of whom are being held for questioning under the Punjab Prevention of Gambling Act. Police officials said the suspects were linked to organized betting networks that accept wagers on sports and other events.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Law & Order) Amit Singh briefed the media, stating that the crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to curb illegal gambling, which undermines public order and finances. He added that investigations will continue to identify any further participants and that the detained individuals will be presented before the court within the stipulated legal timeframe.
