Punjab police have uncovered and dismantled an ISI‑linked network supplying weapons and explosives in Amritsar, thwarting a plot to attack police personnel.
Punjab police announced today that a covert cell allegedly backed by Pakistan's Inter‑Services Intelligence was busted in Amritsar. The operation, carried out by the state police in coordination with central security agencies, led to the seizure of a cache of firearms, ammunition and improvised explosive devices.
Investigators recovered several assault rifles, hand‑guns, grenades and raw explosive material, and detained a number of suspects believed to be part of the supply chain. Preliminary forensic analysis and intelligence inputs point to direct logistical support from ISI operatives based across the border.
Authorities said the module was planning to target police personnel in the city, aiming to create panic and undermine law‑enforcement capability. The plot was uncovered through a series of surveillance operations and intercepted communications.
The police chief of Amritsar district urged the public to remain vigilant and assured that a comprehensive probe is underway to identify any further links to foreign agencies. The arrested individuals are being interrogated, and legal proceedings will follow under anti‑terrorism statutes.
