Punjab police seized illegal structures tied to a known drug‑trafficking couple in Amritsar, filing charges and initiating a probe into their illicit activities.
Punjab police launched a coordinated raid on a series of unauthorised buildings in Amritsar that were reportedly owned by a couple identified in earlier drug‑trafficking cases. The operation, described by officials as a "yellow paw" crackdown, resulted in the seizure of construction materials and documents linking the properties to the suspects.
The couple, who have been under surveillance for their involvement in narcotics distribution across the state, are alleged to have used the illegal structures as fronts for money‑laundering and storage of contraband. Law enforcement agencies have previously linked them to several drug seizures in the region.
During the raid, officers recovered a range of assets, including unapproved building plans, construction equipment, and cash believed to be proceeds of illicit trade. The suspects have been taken into custody, and formal charges under the Punjab Buildings Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are being prepared.
Senior police spokesperson emphasized that the operation underscores the department's resolve to dismantle the nexus between drug trafficking and illegal real‑estate ventures, urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
