A statewide bandh is scheduled in Punjab on August 21, with authorities announcing closures of non‑essential establishments while hospitals, police and emergency services will remain operational.
The Punjab government has announced that a statewide bandh will be observed on 21 August. The protest, organized by local groups, is expected to affect most parts of the state.
In a circular released earlier this week, officials listed the categories of establishments that will be shut for the day, including non‑essential government offices, schools and commercial outlets. At the same time, they confirmed that essential services such as hospitals, police stations, fire brigades and emergency transport will continue to operate.
Transport agencies have warned commuters of possible disruptions to public buses and rail services, urging passengers to check schedules in advance. The administration has also asked citizens to cooperate with law‑enforcement agencies to ensure peace and safety during the bandh.
Residents are advised to plan their activities accordingly and to avoid non‑essential travel on the day of the protest.
