Punjab politician Keval Singh Dhillon accused the Congress of reviving the 1984 trauma and said the decision to hold a rally on November 1 was misguided.

Keval Singh Dhillon, a senior political figure from Punjab, publicly condemned the Indian National Congress for actions he says are reopening the painful memories of the 1984 anti‑Sikh violence. In a press briefing held in Ludhiana, Dhillon asserted that the party’s current rhetoric is stirring old wounds that the nation has yet to heal.

He warned that the Congress’s plan to organise a mass rally on November 1 is a strategic misstep, arguing that such a gathering could exacerbate communal sensitivities at a time when reconciliation is needed. Dhillon emphasized that political mobilisation should not be used to reignite past grievances.

The leader called for the Congress to focus on constructive dialogue rather than symbolic gestures that may polarise communities. He urged the party to adopt a more responsible approach that acknowledges historical trauma without exploiting it for electoral gain.

As of now, the Congress has not issued an official response to Dhillon’s remarks, and the scheduled rally remains under scrutiny by local authorities and civil society groups.
