The Punjab government has introduced a VDS (Village Development Scheme) to regularise unauthorised loads on agricultural tube wells in Patiala, aiming to bring the installations under legal compliance.
The Punjab government announced the launch of a Village Development Scheme (VDS) in Patiala to regularise unauthorised loads on agricultural tube wells. Under the scheme, owners will be required to register their tube wells, undergo inspection and obtain clearance to ensure that loads comply with safety and environmental standards. The initiative comes in response to concerns raised by local authorities about unregulated water extraction and the potential strain on groundwater resources. Officials said the scheme will integrate these installations into the legal framework, curb illegal water use and improve overall water management in the region. The programme is being rolled out by the state agriculture department in coordination with local bodies, with detailed guidelines to be issued shortly.
